CompleteAthlete alums are in the news this spring as world series action kicks in for collegiate ranks.
Tom Kinney, Assistant Coach for Waubonsee Community College, helped shape a highly-competitive squad that saw significant success with a season run culminating with the NJCAA Division II World Series. The Chiefs’ fantastic run gained steam in the last month as they finished the season with an overall record of 37-19. Waubonsee entered post-season play as the four-seed in the Region IV Tournament. Over two weekends the Chiefs proceeded to knock off the top two seeds, each nationally ranked teams. WCC then trounced the Region XII representative to earn the program’s third trip to the National Tournament in the last four years.
And while Kinney’s squad was tearing it up, CA Alum pitcher Trae Patterson was busy (including selection as Second team All-Conference) for Cisco College in their bid for the JUCO World Series in Colorado.
After 13 games over four days featuring several weather delays, the Cisco Wranglers came through the bracket undefeated to win the NJCAA Region V Division I Baseball Tournament held at Dan Law Field on the campus of Texas Tech University in Lubbock. Cisco was the No. 3 seed from the NTJCAC, but rolled through the tournament with wins over New Mexico Junior College, New Mexico Military Institue and two wins over Midland College.
While both teams suffered elimination in two games of the WS, their respective runs to the final rounds set up some pretty firm grounds for repeat runs in the 2017 campaign.
